Cameron Sinclair, co-founder and Chief Eternal Optimist of Architecture for Humanity, and Chapters Coordinator Frederika Zipp updated staff and attendees on relief efforts in Japan at our most recent Design Open Mic session on March 30.

See what Cameron and Frederika had to say about the work that has already begun in response to the disaster in Japan in the video excerpt below. You can also read our most recent Sendai update.

Following the presentation by Frederika and Cameron, we welcomed the newest Architecture for Humanity Design Fellow, Carla Dal Mas. She will be stationed in São Paulo, Brazil. We wish her all the best in her upcoming work in Brazil and look forward to project updates.

Lastly, we heard from Senior Program Manager Gretchen Mokry and Design Fellow Mark Warren about their work with the Happy Hearts Fund, an organization founded by Petra Nemcova in 2005 that builds and re-builds schools in post-disaster areas. In the past six years the organization has completed construction on 50 schools, the 50th being the Francisco Perez Anampa School in Tate, Peru. See photos from the inauguration ceremony for that school below. You can also check out the schematic design for a project currently in development in Ica, Peru, at the Maria Auxiliadora School.

Thanks to all of our presenters for sharing!
