Peru project honored an Architectural Iberoamerican Biennale award!
Last week, our Santa Elena de Piedritas School in Peru was selected as one of the 30 winners to be showcased in the Architectural IberoAmerican Biennale (BIAU, Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo)! Held every two years, the BIAU will be holding its ninth event in Rosario, Argentina October 2014.
The BIAU, selected the best architectural and urban design projects built the IberoAmerican region (in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Uruguay, and Venezuela) over the past two years based on various design criteria. Broadly, the awards are given out to projects that demonstrate an impact in the community beyond the project itself addressing, for example, the local cultural context, climate, ecology, infrastructure, economic challenges, and demonstrating its potential to create greater social cohesion.
To begin the selection process, a group of jurors reviewed the over 1,000 submitted proposals and pre-selected 182 shortlisted projects in May. From this, the 30 best projects were chosen by a group of seven prestigious jurors, based on established criteria - it's worth noting here that Piedritas was the only project from Peru to be awarded!
Huge congratulations to the entire project team -- including the students and community -- who played an invaluable role in the entire design and construction process!
