The final goal post is up on our Football for Hope program in Africa!

As a social legacy initiative from the 2010 FIFA World Cup, we collaborated with FIFA and Streetfootballworld to build 19 community centers, all including football pitches, across 15 countries in Africa. Each center uses soccer (football) as a means for social change by creating spaces adjacent to the football fields, that house local NGOs that serve their surrounding communities.

Last week, we had four members of our Football for Hope team at our headquarters office in San Francisco, sharing their personal stories from the field. It was five days of recapping the highs, the lows, and the lessons learned, while celebrating seven years of hard work from a team that included a handful of project managers, 25 design fellows on the ground, partners, and the dedicated locals within each community; all of whom came together to create spaces that improve the wellbeing and potential of those who use them.

A very big thank you to all involved in this incredible achievement. Your work and passion lives on as we continue to use architecture and community-engaged design to improve the prospects for future generations.

As a legacy of the 2010 Football World Cup, FIFA and streetfootballworld launched the Football for Hope program, with the aim of building 20 centers across Africa. The centers are managed by local NGOs, each having a specific program. All centers address health and education issues using soccer as a tool for development.
