ILE A VACHE , Cayes, Haiti -South

We are happy to announce the completion of the Community Action Plan for the commune of Ile a Vache.

The Ile a Vache Community Action plan is complete. Architecture for Humanity has signed Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with various key players operating on the island, along with the Ministry of Tourism, for a strategic distribution of the manual. AFH is now a member of the technical committee leading the development of Ile a Vache. We are very proud of our work. The manual is the only one in existence now, giving the community a voice in the development plan of their neighborhoods. It is an invaluable tool for all actors involved in the development of the Commune. We would like to thank our funder, The Kellogg Foundation for its continuous support in the realization of this project.

Project Milestones

  • Demolition is finished; rubble is removed on the school site of Ecole Republique d'Argentine
  • December deadline is set for the completion of Mod'Ayiti workshop
  • Windows ready to be installed at the CIM school
  • Haiti Property Law Working Group is preparing drafts on chapters dealing with the Legal issues and the origins of land tenure practices in Haiti
  • FAES (Fonds d'Assistance Economique et Sociale) will review the bid responses before September 30th for Ecole Elie Dubois. Carbon Fiber will be used as the main material to be incorporated for the seismic mitigation of the Historical Building.
