A special thank you to everyone who attended and sponsored Design Like You Give a Damn: LIVE! The two-day forum on humanitarian design and community development at the Center for Architecture in New York City was a huge success and we are so happy that hundreds of people were able to participate. We will post video footage and photos soon, so stay tuned.

The idea for hosting Design Like You Give a Damn: LIVE! came about as we were preparing the second edition of Design Like You Give a Damn, a book that highlights breakthrough design solutions with the power and potential to improve our lives and the world. We wanted to gather people together in person to learn and to share their passion for design that makes the world a better place. Period. No ego.

The opening event and cocktail reception on Friday drew a few hundred guests who packed into the Center for Architecture to view presentations from the 2010 Curry Stone Design Prize Finalists. Celebration ensued.

On Saturday, we hosted panels on innovative financing of humanitarian design, successful monitoring and evaluation practices, and post-disaster rebuilding. You can read the panelists's bios here. In working group sessions that followed the panels, guests sat down one-on-one with the expert panelists, had their questions answered and learned how to apply best practices to their own work.

We also hosted a Design Open Mic, which allowed designers exactly 10 minutes to present. The design concept with the potential to make the world a better place for the curator's 8-year-old daughter won a prize. Lucas London won. Check out his presentation.

Our first ever chapters-wide meeting brought in representatives from as far away as Beijing, Auckland and Santiago. Those who couldn’t attend in person participated via a live feed.

All content was streamed live on our website, and we hosted a special twitter feed.

We owe a huge thank you to our host, the AIA New York Center for Architecture - they were extremely generous and patient with us as we organized the event from afar. And it wouldn’t have happened without Yutaka Takiura from T-Design Architecture and the Pratt Insitute.
