"Designing Recovery" Competition Winners Announced!
Three winners were announced today for "Designing Recovery," an ideas competition designed to help survivors affected by natural disasters by promoting the rebuilding of sustainable and resilient communities.
The competition called for ideas for the cities of New York City, New Orleans and Joplin, MO - three cities greatly affected by recent natural disasters. Organized in partnership between Architecture for Humanity, the American Institute of Architects, Make It Right, St. Bernard Project, and Dow Building Solutions, with winners evaluated closely for not only their strategies towards addressing disaster mitigation, but their actual livability as well.
The winning designs will be constructed, one for each setting, with the help of volunteer labor, as well as donated funds and materials.
Thank you to all participants, and congratulations to the winners!
