Architecture for Humanity's Community Builders recently gathered together for the first time to discuss their commitment to humanitarian design and an upcoming group site visit. Future Community Builders were also invited to attend to learn more about the program that allows us to provide pro-bono services to communities in need around the world. The evening was unlike any other.

Guests met at the Park Avenue Armory, a most dramatic setting in the heart of Manhattan. Our event organizer, Michael Hebb from One Pot, successfully produced an event that broke the mold of traditional dinner parties. Along with Jeffrey Inaba, the director of C-Lab, and a team of architects and designers, Hebb designed and built a common table around which guests shared in a family-style meal prepared by guest chefs.

Indeed, the atmosphere was convivial. Our Community Builders introduced each other one-by-one and led an in-depth exploration of sustainable design. They offered their feedback on a future site visit to one of Architecture for Humanity’s projects and encouraged future Community Builders to take part.

Postprandial discussion took place over coffee, spirits and chocolate. The evening was topped off by a private performance by Emeline Michele, “the queen of Haitian pop.”
