Announcing Pillars of Sustainable Education!
Architecture for Humanity and the Alcoa Foundation have come together to support seven universities in five countries, to explore sustainable design practices, materials and building systems. Pillars of Sustainable Education is committed to helping roll out the next generation of architects, engineers and material designers by providing opportunities for students to apply lessons learned in the classroom to real world building projects. The program highlights four objectives: education, sustainable and integrated design, actionable solutions, and community impact. Each university is challenged to integrate these objectives into their curriculum, incorporating the needs of end-users in their design approach, applying innovative tools for more resource-efficient building and actualizing their designs in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. At the heart of Pillars of Sustainable Education is the understanding that knowledge is the ultimate renewable resource. The featured program site, PillarsOfSustainableEducation.org, will act as facilitator for sharing research, applications and materials across the professional and academic world. We encourage you to keep up with the universities, their projects, and learn along the way as student and faculty leaders report back their milestones, mishaps, and unexpected discoveries through the design, prototype and building processes.
