Technology Transfer and Artisan Participation after 2005 Kashmir Earthquake, presented by Rajendra and Rupal Desai of National Centre for Peoples' Action in Disaster Preparedness (NCPDP) (30 Minutes, including Q&A) - Rajendra and Rupal Desai will be presenting their work on post-disaster housing and technology transfer in Kashmir, an earthquake prone region between India and Pakistan. They are experts in the field of post-disaster housing using community participation processes, local builders and materials to create safe, contemporary vernacular structures that help rebuild local economies. NCPDP is one of a few technology-based NGOs in India and promotes vernacular construction practices and disaster resistant technologies for inclusion in disaster rehabilitation policy and programs. Founded by Rajendra Desai (Structural Engineer) and Rupal Design (Architect) in 2000, the organization has consulted for a variety of state and local governments, NGOs and development organizations, such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNDP, UNCRD.
