We had a full and lively lineup for our April 20th Design Open Mic program.

At the start of our session, we heard from Miles Ford, Program Manager for the redevelopment of the Knowle West Media Center in Bristol, England. Miles gave a compelling presentation about how ModCell -- a construction system that utilizes pre-fabricated straw bale panels to create well-insulated and carbon-negative building structures -- was used to build a community media center for the youth in Bristol.

After we heard from Miles, Program Manager Sandhya Naidu Janardhan spoke to us about her recent trip to Haiti. We got a recap on the wonderful news of the schools that recently broke ground in Haiti -- École La Dignité and École Elie Dubois -- as well as an update on the progress and future of the Rebuilding Center in Port-au-Prince.

Last but not least, we had the treat of watching a short video piece about the 72 Hour Urban Action Project, a "competitive architectural festival that generates interventions in public space within an extreme deadline, a tight budget, and limited space."
