Description:
Architecture for Humanity is seeking a diligent, experienced Contracts Manager to steward its contracts management functions for its expanding operations nationally and internationally. This is an exciting opportunity to help implement the systems and processes that will guide the organization and it’s growth.
The Contracts Manager will be responsible to ensure proactive contract strategies that exercise good stewardship and risk assessment practices. In addition, the Contracts Manager will be responsible for the design, development and execution of a state-of-the-art global contracts management process for the organization. Finally, the selected candidate will provide training and support to program managers to coordinate the construction contracts discipline at the organization to continue to drive towards improved outcomes and effective stewardship practices.
The Contracts Manager works closely with senior management and the program managers.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinates and supports the negotiation and interpretation of all contracts
• Establishes and maintains contract records and ensures compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
• Ensures favorable billing structure and payment schedules and coordinates timely payment.
• Interprets contract provisions to help resolve claims and questions submitted by contractors.
• Receives requests, obtains estimates, updates records, initiates paperwork and follows up on request for approval of work not previously covered in the contract; processes and obtains approval of contract changes.
• Monitors compliance to contract requirements ensuring all conditions are satisfied before approval of the final invoice.
• Initiates and/or conducts meetings with contractors concerning contractual problems as requested by project managers.
• Facilitate superior risk management and fiscal stewardship and ensure proper performance of contract due diligence.
• Create and manage organization wide policies that apply to the governance of contracts.
• Collaborate and manage relationships with both program staff and other accounting/finance team support functions to provide business, financial, and strategic leadership relative to contracts
• Implement contracts management system, including its ongoing maintenance and integration with other organization’s systems and processes.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Structural Engineering or related field required; along with a JD preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in the construction industry, including a minimum of five years experience in managing construction contracts.
• Strong knowledge of requirements for acquiring professional design and construction services in accordance with AIA contract standards required.
• International contracting experience is a must, and contracting experience with government multi-lateral agencies highly desired.
• Background in negotiating commercial development rights and/or community development preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge of the laws and ordinances regulating building construction
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and mitigate building risk
• Skill in negotiating, writing and interpreting contractual agreements
• Experience developing, implementing and executing processes
• Experience implementing contracts management systems
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and complete multiple projects simultaneously
• Demonstrated success working with individuals in a wide range of backgrounds to facilitate group problem solving in dynamic organizations. Strong interpersonal and team-oriented skills are a must
• Sense of humor and optimism required.
