Last month, a large but light wooden package was hand-delivered from Cape Town via Design Fellow Mark Warren. Safely wrapped inside was a basswood replica of the soon-to-be-built Centre, made by volunteers at Architecture or Humanity headquarters in San Francisco.
You could say the Fellows were tickled...as were the construction and community partners, and the model quickly made the rounds in Besongabang, as captured in Nathan and Mark's field video of thanks:
Mark unwraps the package in the (we hope) rec hall
The Fellows couldn't wait for the power to come back on before showing the
Architect of Record: "My project - already done!"
Nathan and the Centre Host Manager
The contractor: "Exactly what's in the [construction documents]..."
Handoff to the village Council
The model makers, Stephanie Easton, Muneeba Sutton and
Ma Jie. Great job guys!!
Big ups to Senior Construction Program Manager Jonathan
Thompson for making the carrying case.
