In response to disastrous flooding this week in Manila, the Philippines, Architecture for Humanity is launching a long-term disaster response program to help rebuild and mitigate against similar future disasters in the region.

Bilang tugon sa mapinsalang pagbabaha sa Maynila, at mga karatig-pook sa Pilipinas – inilunsad ng Architecture for Humanity ang isang pang-matagalang programa na makakatulong sa muling pagbangon, at makakatulong sa pagharap sa mga kalamidad tulad ng pagbahang naganap.

On August 6, the Tropical Storm Haikui brought two days of heavy rains that caused massive flooding and landslides throughout the capital city of Manila in the Philippines. Over 800,000 people were evacuated from their homes and 250,000 people have moved into emergency shelters. It is estimated that 2 million people live in informal settlements in high-risk areas along riverbeds that are prone to flooding.

Noong ika-6 ng Agosto, dalawang araw ng matinding pag-ulan ang dala ng Tropical Storm Haikui. Nagdulot ito ng pagbaha at mga “landslide” sa Maynila. Higit sa 800,000 tao ang lumikas sa kanilang mga tahanan, at may 250,000 tao ang inilipat na sa mga emerhensiyang kanlungan. Tinatantiya na may 2 milyon katao ang nakatira sa mga high-risk o mapanganib na mga lugar, malapit sa mga “riverbeds” na madalas bahain.

The Philippines Floods Response program intends to interrupt the cycle of destruction and displacement caused by severe weather and informal urban settlement in the country's lowlands and riverbeds. Architecture for Humanity has a local team on the ground and is seeking to engage additional architects, engineers, planners and community members in the development of housing solutions resilient against monsoons and severe weather associated with climate change. The organization's goal is to raise at least $100,000 to execute disaster resiliency and reconstruction program and provide communities with the skills and training needed to live more soundly in these environmental conditions.

Sa pamamagitan ng Philippine Floods Response Program – nais na maitigil o mabawasan ang pagkawasak at pagkawala ng mga tahanan o tirahan ng mga mamamayan tuwing may matinding kalamidad o bagyo. Ang Architecture for Humanity ay naghahanap ng mga karagdagang architects, engineers, planners at mga miyembro ng komunidad na tutulog sa pagbuo ng mga solusyon sa housing o pabahay. Kinakailangan na ang solusyon ay kayang labanan ang mga bagyo at masamang panahon na kaugnay ng pagbabago ng klima. Layunin ng samahan ang makalikom ng $100,000 upang maipatupad ang “disaster resiliency and reconstruction program” at mabigyan ang mga komunidad ng ganap na kakayahan at pagsasanay para handa silang harapin ang mga pagbabago at hamon na dulot ng kanilang kapaligiran.

Architecture for Humanity is calling on the international aid community to join in developing a long-term strategy. While many organizations will be acting quickly to execute disaster relief, support is critically needed for the 5-year period to rebuild and safeguard communities and structures against future disasters.

Tinatawagan ng Architecture for Humanity ang international aid community para tumulong sa pagbuo ng pangmatagalang plano. Marami nang mga organisasyon at grupo ang mabilisang kumilos para makapagabot ng tulong, subalit ang mas mahalagang suporta ay kinakailangan para sa 5-year o long-term na panahon, para muling maibangon at higit na mapangalagaan ang mga komunidad at mga gusali laban sa mga darating pang kalamidad.

Architecture for Humanity has supported communities around the world to rebuild after disaster since 1999. The nonprofit design firm has undertaken previous reconstruction efforts in the Philippines, Columbia, Sri Lanka, Sindh Province in Pakistan, and Christchurch in New Zealand. They also maintain regional offices in Tohoku, Japan and Port-au-Prince, Haiti and are assisting those communities with construction training and economic development to ensure those post-disaster zones have the tools needed to build back better.

Mula 1999, ang Architecture for Humanity ay nagbibigay na ng suporta sa mga komunidasd sa iba’t-ibang bahagi ng mundo, para makabangon muli pagkatapos ng sakuna.
