On November 28, 14 members of the Haiti Rebuilding Center caravanned West 27 miles to the town of Léogâne, near the epicenter of the 2010 earthquake, to contribute to Habitat for Humanity's Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project. The project gathered hundreds of volunteers to spend a day building an expansion to the new community of Santo. The Team has a special connection with Santo as they led community planning charrettes for Santo through the first half of 2011.
Now, following the Work Project, Santo boasts 255 single family houses, nearly doubling the size of the community. Santo is a prototype of new, post-quake community development, incorporating significant local feedback and sustainable planning strategies.

The Haiti Team participants were: Kate Evarts, Fleur Messer, Laura, Sven Kalim, Radim Tkadlek, Sony Noel, Stanley Joseph, Balan, Laneau Jean-Carmel, Serge, and Jeanty, with drivers Ronald, Jimmie (who had a new baby daughter the next day) and Cliff.
Kate Evarts met President Carter, they chatted a bit about the work, and he kindly thanked the Team for coming to help. There were some sore arms the next day, but everyone had fun and was delighted to work together with the new homeowners, and the crews from the United States, Canada and Ireland.
