From designing recycling containers to rebuilding a school campus for women in Rwanda, the chapters are doing amazing work around the world. Here are a few examples of AFH chapter projects:

AFHNY: On May 9th 2009, AFHNY joined architects, designers, artists, and assorted kite lovers converged on Manhattan’s Riverside Park for the first annual FlyNY, an international kite design competition. The top three designs will be featured in an article in the June issue of Metropolis magazine, and all winning kites will be auctioned off at a party in Chelsea on May 28th, with proceeds benefiting Architecture for Humanity.

In honor of Frank Lloyd Wright's birthday, Google SketchUp partnered with The Guggenheim Museum to launch a competition to design a simple shelter. By using Google SketchUp and Google Earth you can choose any site and create any basic dwelling (without water, gas or electricity). While it is a great creative initiative, it could go one step further by challenging participants to design with purpose.

Designers Nathaniel Corum and Michael Jones continue their journey to design the cabin for the Plastiki, a 60-foot catamaran made of 12,000 plastic bottles and other recycled materials, that will sail from San Francisco to Sydney later this year.

Today Urban Re:Vision announced three finalists for what might become the most sustainable city block in America. Situated in the heart of Dallas three teams were selected from hundreds of entries as part of the
Revision Dallas design competition

Ideas integrated local materials, vegetated screens to green ways, shaping how people will live and work in the future. Finalists include former Siyathemba finalist MOOV with Atelier Data of Lisbon, Portugal; David Baker and Partners Architects and Fletcher Studio (with renderings support from our friends at Medized) and the firm Little from Charlotte, North Carolina

Architecture for Humanity and Nike are proud to announce the first recipient of the GAMECHANGERS funding to Skateistan, based in Kabul, Afghanistan.  Afghanistan’s first co-educational skateboarding school was established in May 2007 and offers free skateboarding classes for all youth in Kabul through a team of dedicated international and Afghan volunteers. With funding assistance from a range of funding sources the program is about to build Kabul’s first indoor skate park at Ghazi Stadium.
