On April 21st, The Society for a Design Museum Japan held a symposium to follow their first symposium, "Toward Creating a Design Museum Japan" held last November.

This time around, proposals for a future design museum were open to the public, and Architecture for Humanity Design Fellow Akinobu Yoshikawa was chosen to present his proposal at the event!

Conference season swings into full gear over the next couple months. We'd like to share a couple opportunities to mingle with professional peers, attend some insightful discussions and get a dose of Architecture for Humanity in-person, at Dwell in Design in Los Angeles (June 21-23) and at the American Institute of Architects National Convention in Denver (June 20-22).

In the six months since Hurricane Sandy struck the East Coast, Architecture for Humanity has launched a major disaster response effort focused on the long-term reconstruction of devastated communities. The Hurricane Sandy Reconstruction Program is only possible with the on-going support and generosity of our followers, partners, chapter members and global network of architects and designers.

Team Botswana is very glad to announce the opening of the South East Football for Hope Centre in the village of Ramotswa.

The opening ceremony held on February 19th represented the closure of a year and half of hard work to get this project built and the beginning of a new life for the centre and SEDYEA the centre host.

Earlier this month, the capital of California hosted the Green California Summit, a conference dedicated to exploring progressive environmental policies in a state where "the water's warm" for reform.

Among the breakout sessions, Zac Taylor, Architecture for Humanity's Green Schools Research Coordinator, led a discussion on practical strategies for American public schools to secure resources for becoming more sustainable. The forthcoming Green Schools Investment Guide was previewed, and the three-person panel represented different elements in the equation for taking successful local action to improve learning spaces.

MakiBiz / Architecture for Humanity Japan Team participated in a symposium on rebuilding titled, "Miyagi Rebuilding Voice, Earthquake Disaster Rebuilding Symposium 2013, Thinking Support and Collaboration from Local Rebuilding - The Voice of Kitakami Ishinomaki." hosted by the Japan Institute of Architects (JIA) on the weekend of April 6-7th.

Our friends down the street at California College for the Arts are learning about how design businesses work - by testing their proposals on Indiegogo.

Students taking the Business of Design course teamed up to launch Indiegogo campaigns of product ideas - with funds raised going to Architecture for Humanity. Each team set a goal of $500, soliciting $1 "votes" for the most attractive design business idea.
