Enel Cuore Community Empowerment
Piedritas is a remote rural community in Peru with limited access to education. The buildings of the only school in the area were deteriorating, and had become too small to accommodate a growing number of students.
With the goal of allowing each grade to have its own classroom, construction included two new primary classrooms, two preschool classrooms and landscaping.
Responding to the area’s arid climate, the design consists of individual classroom blocks that can be opened to the outdoors and have angled, ventilated roofs to draw away heat and collect rainwater. Shaded outdoor patios provide a comfortable outdoor space for the Piedritas community to gather and play.
